Sunway Medical Centre Damansara Offering Free Bone Mineral Densitometry (BMD) Scans

Worth over RM100,000 in total, the scans will be offered to seniors for a limited time till February 2025

Petaling Jaya, 9th January 2025 – Sunway Medical Centre Damansara (SMCD) is offering free Bone Mineral Densitometry (BMD) scans for citizens aged 55 and above to kick off its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) campaign in conjunction with the hospital’s opening last month. SMCD is the 4th tertiary hospital under the Sunway Healthcare Group.

The BMD screening aims to raise awareness about osteoporosis and the importance of early detection, providing valuable support to individuals at risk. This campaign empowers citizens to take proactive steps toward better bone health, ensuring a healthier future for the elderly community.

Osteoporosis is a significant health issue that often goes undetected until fractures occur, highlighting the importance of early detection. With 77% of Malaysian women living with post-menopausal osteoporosis (PMO) being undiagnosed (Bone Health Alliance Malaysia, 2020), this CSR programme aims to raise awareness about the value of early detection. By offering free bone scans, SMCD hopes to promote preventive care within the community, leveraging SMCD’s orthopaedic expertise, being a key area of focus for the hospital. This initiative underscores our commitment to improving health outcomes and ensuring that individuals receive the care they deserve.

The CSR campaign was launched with an event attended by Ms. Jasmine Lau Mooi Hun, CEO of Sunway Medical Centre Damansara; Dr. Lee Tuan Cheong, Medical Director of Sunway Medical Centre Damansara; Dr. Deepak A/L Ajit Singh; Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon (Spine Surgery and Interventional Pain Management), Dr. Muhammad Azrin Bin Mohd Asihin; Consultant Orthopaedic and Advanced Musculoskeletal Trauma Surgeon, Dr. Raymond Yeak Dieu Kiat; Consultant Orthopaedic Trauma & Sports Surgeon, Dr. Teo Han Liang; Consultant Radiologist, members of Sunway Healthcare Group management, corporate partners, various associations and consultants.
